01 Nov Sound agronomic procedures followed in our farm-ΓΕΩΠΟΝΙΚΕΣ ΠΡΑΚΤΙΚΕΣ ΠΟΥ ΠΡΟΩΘΟΥΝ ΤΗΝ ΑΕΙΦΟΡΙΑ ΑΚΟΛΟΥΝΤΑΙ ΣΤΟ RHIZOMA
The main agronomic procedures that we blindfold follow during cultivation can be summarised with the following:
-recycling of all organic matter produced in Rhizoma Olive Farms (e.g. pruning left overs) as a soil covering material and organic matter digestion
-recycling of all our waste water produced in the oil-mill including the dry matter (e.g. pomace) by applying it directly on the ground after composting it
-sowing, during the winter and after the first treatment of the weeds, with inhabitant legumes (for e.g. peas, lentils and clover) for the benefit of their N-fixing ability (fixing atmospheric N, otherwise useless to all other organisms) and rendering to the soil as NH3
-cut by mechanical means the weeds and rendering their organic matter back in the ground
-use of wood shredder for mulch of pruned branches
-no plowing for the prevention of erosion and further CO2 fixation and a small reduction of the greenhouse effect
-respect of the local flora and fauna of the Farm provided they don’t compete with the olive trees (especially during spring)
